REQUIREMENTS:

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6) in Library & Information Studies/Science, as recognized by SAQA

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the library environment

  • A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities)

  • Knowledge and skills in:

    • Batho Pele principles, Public Service Regulations, policies, and procedures

    • Administration procedures, including norms and standards

    • Basic numeracy, computer literacy, organizing and planning

    • Basic interpersonal relations, problem-solving, and maintaining discipline


DUTIES:

  • Formulate bibliographic data and consult Dewey Decimal Classification schedules (DDC23)

  • Check the existence of library material on the SLIMS database

  • Analyze and determine the type, audience, language, and subject content of the material

  • Use the Sears List of Subject Headings to determine the appropriate subject headings

  • Scan ISBN or input CLOI number of an item to retrieve its bibliographic record on Resource Monitoring for Remote Application (REMORA)

  • Verify, edit necessary fields (e.g., price, quantity), and print catalog cards

  • Search library materials by ISBN, author, and title

  • Check for the existence of records in the database; catalog materials if unavailable

  • Print catalog cards if already catalogued and verify information on the cards
