About the Opportunity

Silvermine Academy is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Newly Qualified Teacher Intern to join its academic team. This full-time, in-person internship bridges the gap between teacher training and professional practice, offering a structured year of mentorship, IEB-focused training, and classroom experience.

This opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate eager to launch their teaching career and gain hands-on experience within an Independent Examinations Board (IEB) environment.

Key Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Completed PGCE or Bachelor of Education (BEd).

  • Registration: Registered with SACE (South African Council for Educators).

  • Subject Expertise: Strong academic background and passion for teaching Afrikaans.

  • Commitment: Must be available full-time and in-person.

  • Transport: Must have own reliable transport.

  • Technological Skills: Strong digital literacy and ability to integrate technology in teaching.

  • IEB Focus: No prior IEB experience required, but a strong willingness to learn and adapt to IEB standards.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Co-Teaching & Observation: Observe and assist in Afrikaans classes, gradually taking on teaching responsibilities.

  • Curriculum Mastery: Participate in IEB curriculum and assessment training sessions.

  • Lesson Preparation: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in Afrikaans using digital tools.

  • Assessment & Feedback: Evaluate learner work and provide constructive feedback in line with IEB standards.

  • Professional Development: Attend workshops, mentorship sessions, and continuous training.

  • Pastoral Care: Support school activities, extra-murals, and uphold the academy’s ethos.
