BMW (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd., a leader in the global automotive industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Engineering Specialist to join its Rosslyn Plant. This position falls within the Body in White production area and plays a critical role in leading and optimizing operations across Logistics, Assembly, and Painted Body processes.

The successful candidate will manage production teams, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure quality, cost, and delivery targets are consistently achieved — all in alignment with BMW’s commitment to innovation and excellence.


Position Overview

This is a leadership position that requires a proactive, results-driven professional to oversee production efficiency, quality, and safety while motivating teams to deliver outstanding performance. The role operates on a rotating shift pattern (early, late, and night shifts).


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop production teams to achieve volume, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Oversee continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process stability and performance.

  • Supervise and mentor Process Leaders and frontline staff.

  • Lead cross-functional projects addressing complex production issues.

  • Manage materials, chemicals, and consumables to ensure cost-efficient operations.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to enhance packaging, waste reduction, and supply chain performance.

  • Maintain shift coordination, balance workloads, and ensure smooth communication during handovers.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and contribute to ISO 9001 implementation.

  • Enforce high standards of safety, housekeeping, and environmental compliance.

  • Partner with Purchasing, Quality, Product, and Project departments on improvement strategies.


Scope of Responsibility

  • Lead production teams to meet reliability, volume, and delivery targets.

  • Manage departmental budgets for scrap, consumables, overtime, and maintenance.

  • Conduct cost analysis and implement cost-saving initiatives.

  • Drive ad-hoc projects for continuous improvement with measurable outcomes.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification (BTech/BEng/BSc in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Production Engineering).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive or related manufacturing environments.

  • Minimum 5 years in leadership or management roles.

  • Experience with technology-specific processes is an advantage.
