ABOUT THE BURSARY:
The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to support deserving and financially needy students pursuing studies in critical agricultural fields. The goal is to build future professionals who will contribute to the growth and sustainability of the province’s agricultural sector.
FIELDS OF STUDY COVERED:
Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards the following qualifications:

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Resource Engineering
-
Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in Veterinary Technology
EXPENSES COVERED:
The bursary will cover the following study-related costs:
-
Registration fees
-
Tuition fees
-
Accommodation
-
Meals
-
Prescribed textbooks
Note: The bursary does not cover historical debt or outstanding fees.
SERVICE AGREEMENT:
Bursary recipients will be required to serve the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture after graduation for a period equal to the duration of funding received.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

South African citizen
-
Must be currently in Matric (Grade 12) or have completed Matric/NCV
-
For Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Resource Engineering:
-
Mathematics and Physical Science are required subjects
-
-
For Veterinary Technology:
-
Mathematics, Physical Science, and Life Science are required subjects
-
-
Must be studying or intending to study in one of the approved fields listed above
-
Must be accepted or provisionally accepted at a registered South African Higher Education Institution
-
Must be unemployed
-
Must be financially needy (household income not exceeding R350,000 per year, or R600,000 for applicants with disabilities)

Preference will be given to Eastern Cape residents, unemployed youth, and historically disadvantaged individuals (though students from other provinces may also apply)
