About the Position
The Agricultural Research Council – Plant Health and Protection (ARC-PHP) seeks to appoint two (2) Farm Assistants at its Roodeplaat facility in Pretoria.
The successful candidates will assist with the maintenance of farm infrastructure, equipment, and grounds while supporting day-to-day operations to ensure the efficient running of ARC’s agricultural research facilities.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in maintenance of farm equipment, infrastructure, and environment.

Perform gardening and general upkeep of the farm and campus areas.

Report defects, damages, or equipment failures promptly to management.

Support record-keeping of daily farm activities.
-
Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks around the farm and facilities.
-
Apply irrigation, fertilizers, and chemical sprays as instructed.
-
Assist with the maintenance of security fences, trellis systems, and irrigation lines.

Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and site procedures.

Work collaboratively within a team and manage time effectively.

Be willing to work overtime when required to ensure operational efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 10 with at least five (5) years’ relevant experience on a farm.

Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
-
Experience applying irrigation, fertilizers, and chemical treatments.

Basic knowledge of farm maintenance and equipment operation.
-
Understanding of health and safety practices in an agricultural setting.

Valid Driver’s Licence (essential).
