About the Position

The Agricultural Research Council – Infruitec-Nietvoorbij (ARC Infruitec-Nietvoorbij) invites applications from qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Researcher: Nematology.
The successful candidate will lead and support nematology research within the deciduous fruit and viticulture industries, contributing to pest management innovations and sustainable agricultural practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate, conduct, coordinate, and manage nematology research projects aligned with ARC’s strategic goals and client needs.

  • Successfully design and implement research programmes contained in the Institute’s business plan.

  • Deliver high-quality scientific outputs that enhance ARC’s research reputation.

  • Develop and execute technology transfer and training programmes including workshops, courses, and industry days.

  • Manage research resources effectively — including infrastructure, stock, and budgets — in line with ARC’s financial policies.

  • Source new research opportunities and secure external funding through proposal development.

  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and popular science articles.

  • Mentor postgraduate students, supporting academic and professional development in nematology and related fields.


Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Nematology (essential).

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Plant Nematology, preferably in pest identification and integrated pest management related to grapevine and deciduous fruit.

  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate external income for research projects and programmes.

  • Registration with a recognized scientific or professional body will be an added advantage.

  • Valid South African driver’s license (Code 8 or higher).
