🔹 About Ivanplats
Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is developing the Platreef Project, a world-class palladium, rhodium, nickel, copper, and gold mine near Mokopane. The mine uses large-scale mechanised underground mining methods and state-of-the-art technology, setting the standard as the “Mine of the Future”.
This internship programme is part of Ivanplats’ commitment to skills development and building local talent, particularly for Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities.
🎯 Programme Purpose
The Geology-Geotechnical Engineering Internship provides:

Hands-on experience in geology and geotechnical disciplines relevant to mining operations

Participation in training and mentoring programmes
-
Exposure to underground and surface mining operations
-
Development of technical skills, research, and KPI management
✅ Minimum Requirements
-
Degree (Minimum NQF Level 7) in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field

Must reside in recognized mining communities
-
Medical fitness to work underground and on surface

South African citizen with ID document
-
Letter from Tribal Authority or Ward Councillor confirming residence
🛠️ Key Responsibilities

Participate in career development, mentoring, and training programmes

Assist in auditing and optimisation of support systems

Support the team with KPIs while gaining experience

Conduct research and technical tasks as requested by supervisors

Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
