About SITFE

  • Established in 1965, SITFE supports education in sugarcane-growing regions.

  • Aims to develop the next generation of agricultural professionals and contribute to skills development in the sugar industry.


Fields of Study

  • Agriculture-related studies at:

    • Cedara College of Agriculture

    • Owen Sithole College of Agriculture

    • University of Mpumalanga


Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen

  • Resident of KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga

  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric

  • Applied or registered for Agriculture studies at a recognized tertiary institution or Agricultural College

  • Household income between R350,000 – R600,000 per year

  • Preference given to:

    • Children of sugarcane farmworkers

    • Disadvantaged applicants from sugarcane-growing areas

    • First-year students near sugar mills or administrative infrastructure


Selection Process

  • Shortlisting based on Grade 11 final results, Matric June results, or latest tertiary results

  • Interviews: Mid-December 2025

  • Final selection: By 31 January 2026

  • SITFE may withdraw bursary if full funding/loans are received from other sources

  • Proof of connection to the sugar industry (if applicable)

  • Proof of household income

  • Death certificate (if applicable)

  • Proof of application/registration at university or college
