Apprentice – Heavy Earthmoving Mechanic (x3)

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete all theoretical learning, practical training, and skills assessments.

  • Apply skills learned in the workplace under supervision.

  • Maintain logbooks and training records for experience building.

  • Maintain a safe working environment according to policies and procedures.

  • Achieve individual KPIs and balanced scorecard targets.

  • Assist/support senior machinists with projects.

  • Perform basic machining operations: turning, milling, drilling, and tapping.

  • Adhere to Machinery Regulations Act.

  • Ensure accurate reporting and documentation.

  • Contribute to productivity, cost control, safety, quality, and risk management.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education:

    • Grade 12 / Matric with N3 in Mathematics and Physical Science or FLT (Foundational Learning Certificate)

    • N2 or higher: Maths, Science, Mechanical Trade Theory, Technical Drawings

    • NCV4: Maths, Physical Science, Industrial Science, Mechanical Trade Theory, Technical Drawings and/or Electrical Trade Theory

  • Driver’s Licence: Code B (must be obtained before trade test)

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Basic analytical, technical/mechanical reasoning, numerical reasoning

    • Spatial visualisation

    • Effective verbal and written communication


This is an entry-level apprenticeship for individuals aiming to become qualified Heavy Earthmoving Mechanics, combining hands-on training with formal technical learning.
