Position Overview
The Middle School Math & Science Teacher (Short Term) will play a key role in developing students’ critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity through hands-on, inquiry-driven learning. This role contributes directly to AISJ’s vision of nurturing lifelong learners who recognize problems, conduct objective investigations, and offer reasoned solutions—achieving academic excellence while contributing to their communities and the environment.
The position requires collaboration within a grade-level team, serving both as a subject teacher and core advisor to a small group of students, fostering strong relationships and supporting each child’s social and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities

Teach six periods of an eight-period rotating block schedule (four science, with potential for one additional subject based on expertise)

Conduct a 30-minute Advisory period daily and participate in weekly team meetings
-
Collaborate weekly with grade-level team members to plan integrated units and advisory activities
-
Communicate regularly with colleagues, parents, and community members regarding curriculum, assessment, and student progress

Support behavioral management and pastoral care of students

Attend and contribute to staff and department meetings
-
Supervise students during breaks and school events as required

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for assessment, attendance, and reporting

Lead a co-curricular after-school activity and chaperone the annual Classroom Without Walls trip

Engage in professional growth sessions held weekly (Wednesdays 2:00–4:00 PM)

Support and contribute to school-wide improvement initiatives

Act as a mentor or resource for new staff members as required
Qualifications & Experience
-
Current teaching certification appropriate to age level and subject specializations

Undergraduate degree in Education or related field (Math or Science preferred)

Proven experience teaching at middle school level

Strong understanding of middle school philosophy and adolescent development

Ability to differentiate instruction and integrate technology in learning

Commitment to continuous professional reflection and improvement

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Positive attitude, flexibility, and collaborative mindset

Willingness to sponsor or participate in co-curricular activities
