Role Overview
RCL FOODS is seeking a Senior Artisan for its Milling Division in Pretoria West.
The role is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations, coordinating tasks, ensuring quality delivery, and reporting challenges to the foreman. The incumbent will assign, supervise, and support daily activities across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and facilities maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Core Artisan Duties

Ensure efficient maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment.

Oversee implementation and execution of key projects in collaboration with the technical team.

Develop and manage facilities projects roadmap.
-
Implement and monitor SLAs for facility services (fire systems, air-conditioning).
-
Conduct engineering problem-solving to maintain high equipment uptime.
-
Facilitate training and upskilling of team members.
-
Deliver workshop performance objectives and manage maintenance budgets.
-
Provide 24-hour coverage for mechanical and electrical matters (standby as required).

Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
-
Translate blueprints into layouts, fabricate items, and install safely.
-
Conduct inspections per OHS, manufacturing, and company standards.
-
Drive team engagement, accountability, and performance.
Mechanical Maintenance
-
Perform preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance.
-
Fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs on machinery and equipment.
-
Plan and oversee assembly, installation, or repair of piping, plumbing, carpentry, and stormwater systems.

Conduct daily routine inspections and provide ad hoc assistance.
Electrical Maintenance

Maintain and troubleshoot LV AC/DC motors, transformers, and MV systems.

Conduct fault-finding on electrical and PLC systems, including AC/DC Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).

Monitor installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment.

Ensure routine inspections and develop schedules where necessary.
Requirements
Qualifications & Trade Certificates:
-
Option 1: Matric + N5 Mechanical Certificate + Trade Test Certificate (Fitter / Fitter & Turner / Millwright)

Option 2: Matric + N5 Electrical Certificate + Trade Test Certificate (Electrician) + Installation Electrician Certification
Experience:
-
3–5 years’ supervisory experience in Milling or Production Industry.

Hands-on mechanical/electrical experience in FMCG or industrial environment.
-
Proven leadership in supervising teams and contractors.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong leadership, planning, and communication skills.
-
Structured approach to Root-Cause Analysis (RCA).
-
Computer literate (MS Office, CMMS – Pragma Onkey 5).
-
Knowledge of Store Inventory Management Systems.
-
Welding and fabrication skills (mild steel, stainless steel).
-
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
-
Knowledge of OHS Act and safety protocols.
-
Food safety standards awareness (FSSC 22000 advantageous).
Additional Requirements:

Valid EB / Code 8 Driver’s License.

Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby duties, and callouts.

Monitor KPIs, performance, and accountability.

Conduct one-on-one discussions with team members bi-annually.
This role is hands-on, highly technical, and requires leadership across multiple sites. It is ideal for someone with mechanical/electrical trade experience, strong supervisory skills, and familiarity with industrial maintenance within a Milling or Production environment.
