Target Group: Unemployed South African youth, 18–35 years


About SAFCOL

  • State-owned enterprise managing South Africa’s commercial forestry assets.

  • Focuses on forestry operations, sawmilling, timber processing, and green economy initiatives.

  • Provides industry-relevant skills for sustainable careers in forestry.


Available Learnerships (NQF-Accredited)

  1. Mechanised Harvesting (NQF Level 3)

  2. Forestry Silviculture (NQF Level 3)

  3. General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) in Forestry, NQF Level 1


Programme Overview

  • Combines accredited theoretical training and practical hands-on workplace experience.

  • Learners gain technical and entrepreneurial skills in forestry and related industries.

  • Offers mentorship and exposure to professional workplace practices.

  • Completion awards an NQF Level 1–3 Certificate.

Eligibility Requirements

  • South African citizen

  • Aged 18–35 years

  • Unemployed

  • Matric/Grade 12 certificate

  • Interest in forestry and outdoor work

  • Priority to candidates from communities where SAFCOL has signed Social Compacts.
