Job Description:

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed freelance speech therapist to join their educational team immediately. The role primarily involves working with preschool and primary school children, diagnosing and treating language, speech, and communication disorders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosis and Therapy: Assess and treat children with language, speech, and communication disorders.

  • Early Intervention & Prevention: Focus on early diagnosis and intervention to prevent long-term issues.

  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with teachers, the Head of the Phoenix Centre, school psychologists, and assistants to develop and implement individual support plans. This includes team discussions, parent meetings, and case conferences.

  • Consultation & Training: Advise and train educational staff to foster an inclusive language environment in the classroom.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Track and document therapy progress and prepare detailed reports.


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • A completed degree in Speech Therapy / Speech-Language Pathology.

  • Registration with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa).

  • Experience working with preschool and primary school children.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Independent, well-organized, and empathetic working style.

  • Enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration.


Important Notice:

  • This is a freelance position.

  • Facilities provided by the school, with fees paid directly by the parents of the children receiving therapy.

  • The speech therapist is responsible for managing their own billing.
