The school is looking for a Counsellor to join its SEED (Supporting Emotional and Educational Development) Department. This department focuses on supporting emotional and educational growth in students, and the new team member will work across two pre-primary campuses in Cape Town.


Role Overview:

As a Counsellor, you will be a part of the Counselling and Learning Support team, providing emotional and developmental support to young learners in the pre-primary phase (ages 18 months to 7 years). Your role will involve working closely with children, parents, and colleagues to create a supportive environment that fosters both social-emotional and academic development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Counselling and Support: Provide individual and group counselling for young children, supporting them with emotional, social, and developmental challenges.

  • Behavior Management: Assist with identifying childhood issues and manage their impact on learning and development in the classroom.

  • Social-Emotional Programs: Implement and promote social-emotional learning programs within the classroom.

  • Collaboration with Colleagues: Work closely with teachers and parents to support holistic child development.

  • Interventions: Design and integrate supportive counselling interventions for children in need of additional emotional support.

  • Administrative Duties: Maintain excellent administrative records and reports.

  • Multi-disciplinary Teamwork: Be an active member of the counselling and academic support team, collaborating on student well-being strategies.


Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A qualified, registered counselling psychologist, educational psychologist, or social worker.

  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience working with children aged 18 months to 7 years, with a strong understanding of this developmental phase.

  • Expertise: Experience in implementing behaviour management programs and promoting social-emotional development.

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with inclusive education policies and supportive educational practices.

  • Skills: Strong administrative skills and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Transport: A valid driver’s licence and own transport are required for travel between the two campuses.
