Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Trainee Manager for their Potchefstroom region in North West. The trainee will learn and assist in overall store operations under the guidance and supervision of a store manager, gaining practical experience in various retail management disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:

Oversee and ensure the proper processing of items including stock, shrinkage, cycle counts, and physical stock matches.

Ensure stock is efficiently flowing to the sales floor.
-
Participate in the management of stock levels and shrinkage, especially in FMCG, Health, and Beauty.
Sales Floor & Receiving:
-
Assist with planning and maintaining promotional stock displays.
-
Ensure proper labeling, pricing, and store layout standards are maintained.
-
Help with goods receiving, ensuring accuracy in stock deliveries and returns.
-
Reconcile ZMove Packs daily in line with receiving policies.
Sales Targets:
-
Support achieving store sales targets in areas like FMCG, Health, and Beauty.
-
Work closely with department heads to meet set targets.
-
Assist in planning and executing promotional activities and strategies.
-
Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and customer initiatives.
-
Collaborate with management to propose strategies to increase market share and optimize profitability.
Point of Sale & Finance:
-
Assist with daily cash-ups and reconciliation of transaction packs.
-
Help manage the efficient operation of the point-of-sale area.
-
Monitor store expenses and ensure adherence to the budget.

Assist in analyzing financial statements and ensuring accuracy of store transactions.

Control overtime and casual staff expenditures.
Customer Service:
-
Address customer complaints promptly and ensure proper handling of customer requests.

Actively encourage loyalty program sign-ups and ensure accurate processing of points.

Provide customers with feedback on queries and complaints.
HR Process Support:
-
Assist with people administration, including leave management, scheduling, and file management.
-
Support HR processes, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.

Assist with the training and development of staff as needed.
Trainee Programme Adherence:
-
Participate in training, meetings, and workshops for on-the-job learning.

Complete all required assessments and learning programs.
-
Ensure that the Portfolio of Evidence is up to date and signed off by the Regional Admin Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
-
Grade 12 / Matric.
-
1-2 years’ experience in retail management, covering stock management, customer service, cash handling, and reporting.

Computer literate (MS Office).
-
Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
-
Willing and able to work retail hours.
Advantageous:
-
Diploma in Financial/Admin or a relevant 3-year diploma.

Sound knowledge of retail store management and retail administration.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong emotional intelligence and conflict management abilities.
