Job Overview:

The Academic Head of Natural Science Junior School is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the Natural Science curriculum across Grades 4-7. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the department, implementing 21st-century teaching strategies, and ensuring that the Natural Science education aligns with the school’s high academic standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the Natural Science department for the Junior School (Grades 4-7).

  • Teach Natural Science across the Junior School grades.

  • Integrate 21st-century teaching strategies to enhance student learning.

  • Manage departmental planning, administration, and reporting.

  • Collaborate with fellow educators to support the academic development of students.

  • Participate in the school’s extra-mural programme and contribute to school activities.

  • Work within a team environment and support professional development.

  • Support the ethos and traditions of St Andrew’s, working within a Christian-based values-driven environment.

  • Uphold the Child Protection Act and ensure compliance with the Sexual Offences Register.

  • Attend after-hours school functions, meetings, and events when required.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in teaching Natural Science, with at least some leadership or management experience.

  • Degree or diploma in Natural Science (or related field).

  • In-depth knowledge of 21st-century teaching strategies.

  • Ability to teach across Grades 4-7.

  • SACE registration (South African Council for Educators).

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with a proven ability to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and prioritize effectively.

  • Experience in team leadership and management is highly desirable.

  • Commitment to values-driven, Christian education.

  • Willingness to apply for clearance under the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register.
