Main Purpose of the Position
To deliver high-quality audiovisual news stories aligned with SABC News editorial objectives, while fulfilling the public service broadcasting mandate.
Key Accountabilities
-
Capture visuals of the highest editorial and technical standard for broadcast and digital platforms
-
Collaborate with journalists to develop story angles before coverage
-
Advise reporters and video editors on the strongest visuals for storytelling
-
Edit news and current affairs packages in line with SABC editorial standards and relevant codes (BCCSA, Press Codes)
-
Support live broadcast setup and coordination when needed
-
Ensure all audiovisual content meets SABC News editorial, quality, and technical requirements
-
Deliver content for digital and broadcast use
-
Maintain and care for all assigned equipment (e.g. camera gear), ensuring security and functionality
-
Report any damaged or broken equipment to the team leader immediately
-
Engage with internal stakeholders to support news delivery objectives
-
Comply with all applicable laws and codes, including:

South African Constitution

Broadcasting Legislation

ICASA regulations
-
BCCSA and Press Codes

SABC Editorial Policies and SOPs

Minimize risk and prevent damage or loss of equipment
Requirements
-
National Diploma (NQF 6) in Video Technology, Media Studies, or a related field
-
Strong news sense and awareness of current affairs
-
Excellent photographic and visual storytelling skills
-
Physically fit to manage and carry audiovisual equipment
-
Ability to work under pressure and outside regular hours
-
Computer literate
-
Excellent eyesight
-
A valid driver’s licence is advantageous
