About the Internship
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) invites qualified South African graduates to apply for a 3-year internship in Animal Breeding & Genetics. This opportunity allows interns to contribute to advanced research in genetics and biotechnology, with hands-on experience in molecular labs, field data collection, farmer engagement, and scientific reporting.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in project planning and execution of technical tasks

Collect samples, capture data, and perform quality control

Conduct lab analyses including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and fragment analysis

Prepare for and support farmer engagement activities
-
Contribute to technology transfer, reporting, and presentations

Maintain research facilities and equipment
-
Participate in internal workshops and meetings
-
Support the research team in meeting project milestones
Minimum Requirements
-
MSc in Animal Science, Genetics, or Biotechnology
-
Proven experience with molecular lab techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR)

Understanding of research principles
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work both independently and within a team

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

A valid driver’s license is advantageous
