Programme Overview

The IDC Internship Programme is a 24-month fixed-term contract designed to give unemployed youth structured, supervised workplace exposure with the goal of:

  • Enhancing employability

  • Allowing graduates to apply academic knowledge in real environments

  • Building career confidence and networks

  • Developing skills aligned to IDC’s operational sectors


Key Objectives

  • Build a talent pipeline for IDC business units

  • Provide career path exploration and mentoring

  • Support graduates in transitioning from study to work

  • Address youth unemployment through practical exposure


Eligibility Criteria

✔️ Must be a South African citizen
✔️ Must be under 35 years old
✔️ Must not be enrolled in any institution
✔️ Must not have participated in another internship or learnership
✔️ Must have a completed qualification in one of the approved fields
✔️ Must be proficient in English (written and verbal)


Approved Fields of Study

Graduates must hold qualifications in one of the following areas:

Accounting / Finance / Legal

  • BCom Accounting / Financial Management / Management Accounting

  • Financial Accounting / BTech Cost & Management Accounting

  • BCom (Law) / LLB

  • CTA / Honours in Finance or Accounting

Risk / Quantitative / Economics

  • Honours in:

    • Mathematical Finance

    • Financial Engineering

    • Quantitative Risk

    • Financial Modelling

    • Actuarial Science

    • Financial Econometrics

    • Mathematical Economics

Engineering / Built Environment

  • BEng Industrial Engineering

  • BSc Environmental Science / Construction / Civil Engineering

  • BSc Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (ECSA registration advantageous)

  • National Diploma in Engineering (ASA registration advantageous – Plant & Machinery)

  • National Diploma in Real-Estate Valuation / BSc Property Studies (SACPVP Candidate Valuer advantageous – Land & Buildings)

Communications / Information

  • Honours Information Science / Records Management

  • BA or Postgrad / Advanced Diploma in Journalism / Brand Communication / Media Studies

  • Data Science

  • Information Management / Records

Human Capital / Education / Psychology

  • BCom / BA Human Resource Management

  • Diploma in Human Resource Development

  • Degree or Diploma in Education

  • BA / BCom Psychology

  • Master’s in Psychology

Placement
