Clifton Nottingham Road invites applications for a Grade 4 and 5 Afrikaans teacher.
Clifton Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational school offering classes from Grade 000 to Grade 7, with the option of weekly and termly boarding. Founded in 1942, the school is set on a picturesque 64-hectare estate in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Afrikaans Specialist Teacher to join our Senior Primary team, focusing on teaching Afrikaans to our Grade 4 and 5 children. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Afrikaans language, a proven ability to engage young learners, and a commitment to fostering a love of language and culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Deliver engaging and effective Afrikaans lessons to Grade 4 and 5 children using various teaching methods.

  • Curriculum Development: Plan, prepare, and deliver a comprehensive Afrikaans curriculum that aligns with the school’s educational objectives and meets the needs of all children.

  • Assessment & Feedback: Regularly assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and implement strategies to support improvement in Afrikaans.

  • Classroom Management: Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and a love for learning.

  • Co-curricular Involvement: Participate in school events and co-curricular activities.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues to ensure a cohesive language learning approach and support cross-curricular initiatives.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree and SACE registration

  • Experience teaching Afrikaans at the Senior Primary level, with a strong understanding of the language and its pedagogy

  • Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English, with the ability to engage and inspire young learners

  • A creative and innovative approach to teaching, with the ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage classroom activities effectively

  • A positive, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude committed to professional growth and collaboration
