Position Overview

AISJ seeks three full-time Boarding House Parents (BHPs) to join our vibrant boarding program for students aged 12–18. This role is central to providing a secure, supportive, and inclusive “home away from home.” Ideal candidates will have prior experience in residential care, preferably within an international or culturally diverse context, and demonstrate a solid understanding of safeguarding practices.


Key Responsibilities

Pastoral Care & Student Wellbeing

  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with boarders

  • Monitor wellbeing, including sleep, emotional stress, and academic pressures

  • Report concerns to counsellors, safeguarding leads, and health professionals

  • Guide students in developing healthy routines and habits

  • Promote an inclusive and respectful house culture

Supervision & Safety

  • Be available to respond to emergencies and maintain a secure environment

  • Conduct room checks and ensure health and safety protocols are followed

  • Administer first aid outside of school nurse hours

  • Participate in rotating weekend duty shifts

Community Building & Communication

  • Attend weekly and monthly meetings with students and pastoral staff

  • Communicate with parents/guardians about wellbeing and behavioural matters

  • Help lead cultural, recreational, and enrichment activities to enhance student life

House Operations & Administration

  • Keep detailed records of attendance, health, behaviour, and communication

  • Oversee cleanliness and inspect student rooms and common areas

  • Report and track maintenance issues

  • Assist with arrival and departure logistics each term


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required (teaching or counselling qualification preferred)

  • Previous experience in boarding or residential settings with adolescents

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Technological proficiency (email, spreadsheets, school systems)

  • Calm, emotionally intelligent, and resilient under pressure

  • Willing to engage in continuous professional development
