Social Media Officer

Requirements:

  • Qualifications:

    • A three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Digital Communication, Digital Marketing, Multimedia, or a related qualification recognized by SAQA.

    • General exposure to the field is an advantage.

  • Skills and Experience:

    • Basic understanding of content planning, writing, and maintaining social media content.

    • Knowledge of using social media as part of a communication plan.

    • Familiarity with web and social media content management systems (CMS), videography, photography, and/or graphic design.

    • Interest and knowledge in current affairs and government operations.

    • Familiarity with current social media trends and best practices.

    • Excellent English writing and sub-editing skills.

    • Strong planning, organizing, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

    • Computer literate.


Duties:

  • Be part of a team responsible for continuously updating, maintaining, and improving the GCIS social media accounts and websites.

  • Liaise with role-players and prepare content for social media (writing, editing, and abstracting content).

  • Update website content using Drupal CMS and create engaging content (written, graphic, and video) to foster audience interaction.

  • Use Adobe tools for content creation.

  • Write and distribute e-newsletters to mailing list subscribers.

  • Use a social media monitoring tool to listen, monitor, and engage with target audiences proactively.
