Job Description
RCL Foods is seeking a Risk Control Officer for its Baking Division in Durban. The role focuses on overseeing the adequacy and effectiveness of Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) and Risk processes, ensuring compliance, and protecting the business against operational uncertainties.
The officer will implement and monitor SHE and Risk Management processes, integrate them into daily operations, provide guidance to risk controllers, and foster continuous improvement within the business unit.
Minimum Requirements

National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent (or studying towards it)

Minimum 2 years’ experience in Production/Manufacturing/Construction/Mining

Environmental Certificate

Incident Investigation Certification

HIRA Certification

Auditing Certification

ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Awareness/Implementation/Auditing

Knowledge of: OHS Act 85 of 1993, National Environmental Management Act, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment, Business Continuity Planning, Contractor Management, Basic Conditions of Employment Act
Duties & Responsibilities
Span of Control
-
Monitor safety and environmental issues, investigate incidents, provide training, and recommend improvements

Foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities (DoL, SAPS, PSIRA, Metro Police, Fire Department)
-
Ensure ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 programmes are implemented efficiently
-
Draft policies, procedures, and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
-
Track Motor Vehicle Accidents and enforce disciplinary actions
-
Lead incident investigations and implement control measures
-
Chair monthly SHER Meetings and compile scorecards
-
Conduct HIRA assessments and investigate robberies
-
Report injuries under Section 24 to the DoL
-
Assist in budget planning and control
-
Use trend analysis to identify system deficiencies
Audits & Surveys
-
Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits
-
Ensure timely surveys and assessments as per legislation
-
Address corrective actions and identified gaps
Training
-
Identify employee training needs in Health, Safety, and Environmental areas
-
Plan and ensure training compliance with legislation
-
Maintain a training matrix
Reporting
-
Develop and communicate SHE and Risk reports to decision makers
-
Analyse data for trends and track DIFR stats
-
Liaise with regulatory agencies and implement sustainable development initiatives
