Introduction
Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for an Electrical Artisan. The successful candidate will be responsible for electrical maintenance, repair, and installation of new electrical systems and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Installation, Operation & Maintenance
-
Install, operate, and maintain electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments.

Diagnose and repair electrical faults using circuit diagrams.

Design, interpret, and work from electrical circuits and drawings.
-
Assist with commissioning and maintenance of test facilities.
-
Operate 11Kv medium voltage switchgear equipment within Mintek substations.
Compliance & Standards
-
Assist Supervisor with QA/QC inspections.
-
Inspect subcontractor workmanship (where applicable).
-
Ensure compliance with electrical laws, codes, rules, and SANS 10142 standards.

Test plant components/systems to ensure proper function.
-
Understand electrical network reticulation at Mintek.
Safety & SHEQ Compliance
-
Perform task risk assessments (HIRA).
-
Ensure safety of trade workers/operators.
-
Maintain Mintek’s safety standards and procedures.
-
Recommend improved work practices.
-
Assist with safety inspections.
Workshop & Field Activities
-
Assemble, install, and maintain wiring, equipment, and apparatus.
-
Connect conductors to circuit breakers, transformers, and components.
-
Install power/control cables to motors and distribution boards.
-
Test systems using multimeters, meggers, tong testers, etc.
-
Install conduits, pull insulated wires, and complete circuits.
-
Perform lockout/tag-out procedures.
-
Plan and execute electrical layouts and installations.
-
Work on ladders, scaffolds, and roofs as needed.
Administration & Training
-
Complete job cards and schedules.
-
Plan and organise tasks.
-
Train others in basic electrical tasks.
-
Perform corrective and preventative maintenance.
-
Share functional expertise and work cooperatively.
Minimum Requirements
-
Qualification:
-
N3/Matric + Trade Certificate as Electrician (minimum)
-
N4 + Trade Certificate as Electrician (ideal)

Experience: At least 5 years’ electrical field/plant environment experience, including troubleshooting on different circuits.

Training: Passed trade test and completed apprenticeship as Electrician.
