Job Overview
Harriston School, a Christian-based independent school, is seeking a Special Needs Teacher to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a mainstream classroom setting. The role focuses on fostering academic, social, and emotional development of learners in an inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities

Teach and support SEN pupils of various ages

Assess learner progress and write formal reports to parents biannually

Collaborate with SEN coordinators, managers, teachers, assistants, external specialists, and families

Plan, deliver, and adapt individualised learning programmes

Monitor learner progress and provide timely interventions

Contribute to the school’s inclusive practices
Requirements
-
Qualified foundation or intermediate phase teacher status
-
Understanding of a range of additional needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language)

Bilingual in English and Afrikaans (spoken and written)

Patient, empathetic, and flexible

Excellent communication and teamwork skills
