Job Overview:

Holy Family College, a growing co-educational independent Catholic school in Parktown, Johannesburg, invites applications for the position of School Bursar / Financial Manager.

We are seeking a highly skilled and committed professional who can provide strong financial leadership, integrity, and strategic oversight in support of the school’s mission to provide a caring, nurturing, and sustainable learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Develop and maintain robust financial policies and procedures

  • Compile, oversee, and align budgets with strategic goals

  • Monitor transactions and reconcile accounts daily

  • Manage billing, collections, and debt recovery

  • Oversee procurement, asset registers, and investments

  • Maintain accurate records up to Trial Balance

  • Prepare journals and reconciliations (monthly and annually)

  • Liaise with auditors and prepare audit files

  • Manage payments, cash flow forecasts, and SARS submissions

  • Oversee all financial administration

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly Management Accounts and annual financial statements

  • Compile detailed financial reports for senior management and board

  • Attend regular finance meetings with management and/or the Board

Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to IFRS for SMEs and regulatory requirements

  • Support audits and implement audit recommendations

  • Comply with POPIA and Department of Education financial policies

Payroll and HR:

  • Manage accurate and timely payroll processes

  • Assist in maintaining HR records and legal compliance in employment contracts

Systems and Applications:

  • Support implementation of new accounting systems

  • Manage collections and reporting for excursions, events, and sports

  • Use accounting software proficiently

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Provide financial guidance to the Headmaster, Management Team, and Governing Body

  • Build and lead a collaborative and efficient finance team


Skills and Qualifications

  • B.Com Accounting degree

  • Minimum 3 years’ financial management experience (school or non-profit environment preferred)

  • Strong understanding of IFRS for SMEs and SA financial regulations

  • Advanced Excel skills; excellent analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and computer literacy

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail

  • Self-motivated and deadline-driven

  • A passion for education and willingness to contribute beyond finance

  • Willingness to support the Christian ethos of the school
