Thomas More College is a respected independent Christian school committed to upholding excellence in education and administration. The school seeks a detail-oriented, professional, and ethical individual to assist the Business Manager and oversee payroll and HR administration functions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process monthly payroll accurately and on time.

  • Maintain and update leave records and manage payroll exceptions (e.g., garnishments, third-party payments).

  • Prepare statutory and internal reports (EMP201, UIF, etc.).

  • Maintain comprehensive HR records and assist with drafting contracts and updates.

  • Manage employee benefits (pension, medical aid) and coordinate enrolments and terminations.

  • Provide documentation for internal and external audits.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for payroll and HR queries.

  • Support the finance team with month-end and year-end processes.

  • Manage cash control for school events and petty cash.

  • Administer staff loans and manage reconciliations.

  • Oversee staff exit procedures and ensure compliance.


Skills & Experience Required

  • Commitment to the values and Christian ethos of Thomas More College.

  • Minimum Grade 12; Payroll/HR/Finance qualification preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in payroll and HR administration.

  • Proficiency in Sage VIP or Sage Business Cloud Payroll Professional and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation (Tax, UIF, SDL, BCEA).

  • Proven ability to manage payroll for 250–300 employees.

  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Must hold a Criminal and Sexual Offenders Clearance Certificate.
