Job Description

RCL Foods is looking for a talented Artisan Instrumentation Mechanician to join our Sugar Division at the Molatek Mill. Reporting to the Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing asset care activities according to company maintenance systems and procedures, providing accurate and timely feedback, and ensuring effective documentation.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric with maths and science.

  • A minimum of N3 and a Trade Test certificate in Instrumentation, successfully completed a formal institutionalized training program.

  • National Diploma (N6/S4) with relevant work experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret PLC logic programs for fault finding and control optimization.

  • Experience using historical data for root cause analysis and optimizing plant processes.

  • Sugar and Milling experience is advantageous.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

  • Fully computer literate with proficiency in Word and Excel.

  • Self-motivated, able to manage day-to-day activities and projects effectively.

  • Ability to produce high-quality workmanship.

  • South African citizenship required for consideration.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned and autonomous maintenance to reduce unplanned maintenance and optimize plant availability (meeting LTA set targets).

  • Calibrate, repair, and maintain control gear/instrumentation and associated equipment (including electrical interlocks) to ensure operations meet set standards and produce calibration certificates.

  • Perform installations, checks, troubleshooting, testing, repairs, and modifications to instrumentation and electronic equipment.

  • Maintain and improve existing PLC, HMI, SCADA systems and Instrumentation networks (both hardware and software); make required modifications.

  • Ensure proper documentation for any changes or modifications made to systems.

  • Ensure availability of critical spares.

  • Assist in design and development of basic drawings, manage contractors, and handle commissioning of projects.

  • Perform standby duties and unplanned overtime as required.

  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental guidelines as well as all company policies and procedures.
