Purpose of the Job:

As a Baker at Checkers, you will serve as the brand ambassador for the bakery, playing an essential role in ensuring that customers have access to fresh, high-quality baked goods. You will follow company standards, including health and safety requirements, to consistently produce a variety of delicious bakery products. Your focus will be on delivering a positive customer experience through high-quality baked goods and maintaining excellent production standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and Produce Quality Bakery Products: Ensure that baked goods are made according to Checkers’ recipes, product guidelines, and quality standards.

  • Follow Housekeeping, Food Safety, and Hygiene Standards: Apply stringent food safety and hygiene practices in line with health and safety regulations.

  • Plan and Execute Production Schedules: Organize and manage the production of bakery items based on effective schedules to meet customer demand.

  • Maximize Sales and Minimize Waste: Focus on ensuring that products are produced efficiently, maintaining quality while reducing waste.

  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction: Strive to exceed customer expectations with the bakery products you produce.

  • Mentor Bakery Assistants and New Bakers: Provide guidance and coaching to staff, improving production quality and efficiency.


Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • A relevant baking certificate (Advantageous).


Experience:

  • Experience as a Baker Assistant or Baker in a retail baking environment, particularly in preparing and baking a variety of goods such as pastries, bread, rolls, etc.

  • Experience in food preparation and presentation methods (Advantageous).

  • Hands-on experience addressing food safety issues within an operational environment (Advantageous).


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Food Preparation and Presentation: Understanding of methods and techniques for preparing, presenting, and maintaining high-quality baked goods.

  • Knowledge of Food Safety, Hygiene, and OHS Act: Familiarity with food safety regulations, hygiene practices, and safety standards.

  • Creative Orientation Toward Baking: A passion for baking and the ability to experiment with different products and recipes.

  • Attention to Detail and High-Quality Orientation: A keen eye for detail and commitment to producing high-quality bakery products.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
