Position Overview:
St Alban’s College is seeking to appoint a Director of Rugby to lead and manage the College’s Rugby program. This is a permanent full-time role and will involve teaching for candidates with a teaching background. Specific terms and conditions will be negotiated with the preferred candidates. The Director of Rugby will be responsible for strategic and operational oversight and will play a pivotal role in the program’s direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Programming: Lead an inclusive, challenging, and engaging rugby program for St Alban’s College players across all age groups and abilities.

  • Leadership: Provide quality leadership to the coaching team, ensuring a collaborative team dynamic that acts in the best interests of the students.

  • Management & Administration: Oversee the operation and administration of the rugby program in collaboration with the High Performance Manager. This includes:

    • Managing the season calendar, weekly training schedules, team list, and communication with parents and stakeholders.

    • Ensuring the efficient and timely execution of all administrative requirements.

  • Relationship & Stakeholder Management: Build positive, constructive relationships within the rugby program and the wider College community.

  • Safety & Compliance: Promote a safety-first mindset, ensuring adherence to safety standards, workplace health, and the College’s Code of Conduct.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to the SARU Constitution, Rules, and By-Laws of Rugby while maintaining professional standards in all aspects of integrity, courtesy, and appearance.


Selection Criteria:

While specific criteria have not been set, the ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • Qualifications: Hold a degree or similar qualification in teaching, sport, or a management-related discipline.

  • Experience:

    • Demonstrate significant experience as a dynamic rugby practitioner with coaching, organisational, and management skills in building and leading a rugby program, ideally within a school environment.

    • Ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for the enhancement of rugby at St Alban’s College across all levels of ability.

    • Experience in working within complex, fast-paced organisations, building trust, and forming partnerships at all levels.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all stakeholders.
