The Deutsche Schule Durban (DSD) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Full-Time Bookkeeper to join its administrative team. This vital position supports the school’s financial integrity by maintaining accurate records, ensuring SARS compliance, and contributing to operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage sales and debtors, including tuition fees, invoices, and collections.

  • Oversee purchases and creditors, ensuring timely payments and accurate records.

  • Perform banking and reconciliations, including petty cash, deposits, and transfers.

  • Handle school uniform shop operations, maintaining stock and profitability reports.

  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.

  • Process accounting journals and manage the general ledger.

  • Calculate and process accruals, deferrals, and provisions.

  • Conduct monthly reconciliations across financial accounts.

  • Administer payroll processing, ensuring SARS compliance (PAYE, UIF, EMP201/501).

  • Assist with budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Matric certificate (essential); National Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping preferred.

  • 3–5 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally in education or non-profit sectors.

  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (Pastel, Sage, or QuickBooks).

  • Strong knowledge of SARS eFiling and South African tax laws (VAT, PAYE).

  • Advanced Excel skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
