Requirements

  • Grade 10 (minimum requirement).

  • Grade 12 will be an added advantage.

  • Valid Driver’s Licence (added advantage).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (must be bilingual).

  • Ability to follow and execute given instructions.

  • Good physical health with basic knowledge of manual labour.

  • Hard-working and self-disciplined.

  • 1 year of relevant experience in general work related to sewer blockages or sanitation within a Local Government Authority.


Duties

  • Load and off-load materials and equipment safely using protective gear.

  • Unblock sewer pipelines using rodding equipment.

  • Clean up sewage remains after blockages and overflows.

  • Work in confined spaces such as drainage manholes.

  • Clean VIP and chemical toilets.

  • Operate small plant equipment for compaction and sewer-related works.

  • Excavate using picks and shovels.

  • Clean pump station sumps, tools, vehicles, and equipment.

  • Maintain surrounding areas by cutting grass and performing housekeeping duties.

  • Place traffic warning signs during road excavation work.

  • Keep the work area clean using brooms and manual labour tools.

  • Perform any labour-related or ad hoc tasks as instructed by the supervisor or superintendent.

  • Follow all legal instructions to ensure safety and productivity in the section.

Salary

💰 R158,844 – R174,012 per annum
(Level 13 of a Grade 4 Local Authority)
Total package (including benefits): R293,981.92 per annum


Additional Information

  • The municipality may reimburse travel costs for candidates traveling over 400km for job levels 1–4.
