Main Job Purpose

The IT Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the company’s network infrastructure. This includes ensuring the integrity of high-availability systems to provide maximum performance for users. The role requires strong knowledge of network administration, security best practices, and emerging technologies.

Minimum Education & Certifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • CompTIA A+ and N+ Certification (required)

  • Microsoft Office & Visio Competence (required)

  • CompTIA Security+ (advantage)

  • Cyber Security related certification (advantage)

  • HP/Aruba or Ubiquiti Certification (preferred)

  • CCNA / CCNP / CCNE (advantage)

  • FortiGate/FortiOS Certification (advantage)

  • Linux Administration (advantage)

  • ITIL Foundation (advantage)

  • Valid unendorsed Code 08 driver’s license


Experience Required

  • Minimum 5 years IT-related experience

  • Proven track record in a similar role

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills (English)

  • Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability

  • Strong planning, organisation, and attention to detail

  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations

  • Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, VLAN, LAN, WAN, WLAN, routing protocols

  • Experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection

  • Familiarity with Fortinet devices, HP/Aruba, Ubiquiti, Linux

  • Proficiency with network monitoring tools (PRTG, Wireshark, Nessus)

  • Knowledge of international security standards (ISO 27001, PCI DSS)


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Requires lifting networking equipment and working in data centres

  • Office-based, with travel to remote sites (local & international)

  • Availability after hours for urgent issues may be required


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and implement LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, Firewalls, Switches

  • Maintain DNS, DHCP, network security, and wireless infrastructure

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network connectivity issues

  • Perform proactive monitoring, maintenance, and system upgrades

  • Ensure compliance with security and privacy regulations

  • Administer software and hardware assets, license compliance

  • Provide end-user support, guidance, and training

  • Maintain accurate documentation, network diagrams, and procedures

  • Liaise with 3rd-party vendors and service providers

  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution

  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for outages/security incidents

  • Ensure ICT systems meet international compliance and standards

  • Submit accurate monthly reports on projects and progress
