Role Overview:
Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng is seeking an inspiring and visionary leader to head our Music Department. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and grow a department that reflects our African identity, while fostering a rich and diverse cultural and musical life across the school. The ideal candidate will be an experienced music educator with a deep appreciation of African cultural heritage and the ability to create an innovative extra-curricular programme.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Music and Culture Department, ensuring alignment with Lebone II College’s vision and values

  • Design and implement a comprehensive extra-curricular cultural programme, celebrating both African and global artistic traditions

  • Teach music to students of varying levels, preparing them for IEB and other recognised examinations, competitions, and performances

  • Promote and facilitate African music traditions, including marimba, drumming, choral singing, and dance, alongside Western classical and contemporary music

  • Manage and mentor music and culture staff, including peripatetic teachers and cultural coaches

  • Organise and lead school concerts, cultural festivals, drama productions, and community engagement initiatives

  • Maintain high standards of performance and participation in assemblies, and ceremonial occasions

  • Oversee administrative functions, including timetabling, budgets, event planning, and reporting


Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Music, Cultural Studies, or a related field

  • At least 4 years’ experience in music and/or cultural education, with proven leadership experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work across diverse musical and cultural forms

  • SACE registration

  • Proven ability to design and implement extra-curricular programmes in music and culture
