Position Overview:
Somerset College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Netball to lead their netball programme for the 2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, creative, and results-oriented coach with a proven track record in netball coaching and programme management. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to design and implement a comprehensive netball curriculum, lead a dedicated coaching team, and support the holistic development of student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum & Programme Design: Develop and continuously update the netball curriculum, integrating technical skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and psychological resilience for all age groups and skill levels.

Seasonal Planning: Design seasonal training cycles, match schedules, and progression benchmarks to ensure consistent athlete development.

Coaching Staff Management: Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate coaching staff to ensure alignment with the school’s philosophy and high coaching standards. Facilitate regular coach development workshops to promote collaboration.

Athlete Development: Implement individualised athlete development plans focusing on skill advancement, fitness, nutrition, and mental wellbeing. Work closely with medical staff to monitor injuries and recovery.

Team Selection & Communication: Lead transparent, merit-based team selection processes and effectively communicate player progress, expectations, and team updates to parents and guardians.

Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyse, and report on player statistics, match outcomes, and training effectiveness. Prepare seasonal and annual reports for the Director of Sport, outlining achievements, challenges, and goals.

Motivation & Student Development: Inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential while balancing academic, cultural, and sporting commitments.
Minimum Requirements:

Proven experience in netball coaching and programme management, ideally within a school or academy setting.

A recognised coaching qualification (NSA Coaching Level 2 or above).

A recognised umpiring qualification (NSA Level 1 or above).

Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Valid Police Clearance (not older than 3 months) and compliance with child protection policies.

Familiarity with injury prevention protocols, recovery practices, and return-to-play procedures.
