🎯 Job Description

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Health and Safety Officer ensures workplace safety by identifying and managing risks, implementing safety protocols, and maintaining compliance with regulations. The role includes conducting inspections, audits, and risk assessments, developing safety policies, providing training, investigating accidents, and recommending corrective actions. The objective is to promote a culture of safety, prevent injuries, and maintain a healthy work environment.


⚙️ Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing health and safety systems across all SOILL sites

  • Maintain fire detection, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers

  • Maintain flammable permits with local authorities

  • Implement Health and Safety Management System and safe work procedures

  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections on employees and contractors

  • Record, report, and investigate all accidents and incidents

  • Provide informal Health and Safety training as required

  • Monitor compliance with statutory Health and Safety requirements

  • Ensure contractor safety files are up to date and maintain safety documentation

  • Lead site induction programs and emergency preparedness initiatives

  • Promote a safety culture and awareness within the organization


🧠 Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Applicable Health and Safety qualification recommended

  • 2–3 years relevant experience

  • SAMTRAC and HIRA certification

  • ISO 45001 implementation and internal auditing (recommended)

  • Experience in FMCG or food manufacturing (recommended)

  • SAIOSH and SACPCMP registration

  • HPCSA registration (recommended)

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and administration skills

  • Strong understanding of OHSA Act and Regulations

  • Knowledge of NFPA 36, SANS 10400, SANS 10139

  • Ability to work effectively in health and safety management
