Job Overview:

Afrimat Contracting International is seeking a Health & Safety Intern to join their team at the Balmoral site. The internship provides a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in health and safety management within the mining industry. You will be involved in safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and the development of safety initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Safety Management or related field.

  • SAMTRAC certification (advantageous).

  • COMSOC 1 & 2 certification (advantageous).

  • Computer Literacy (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related mining regulations.

  • Good administrative abilities with a strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written).

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.

  • Must be medically fit for work.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety Inspections: Participate in or conduct health & safety inspections and compile reports.

  • Filing System Management: Maintain and manage operational Health & Safety filing systems to ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Internal & External Audits: Assist in internal and external Health & Safety audits.

  • Health & Safety Meetings: Attend meetings to ensure alignment with safety objectives.

  • Health & Safety Initiatives: Assist in the development and rollout of initiatives and campaigns to promote a culture of safety.

  • Incident/Accident Investigations: Participate in the investigation, reporting, and recording of incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and monitored.

  • HIRA Process: Assist in the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) process.

  • Internship Development Programme: Participate in Afrimat’s Internship Development Programme.

  • Site and Safety File Management: Compile and maintain site and Health & Safety files.
