About the Role

Brescia House School, an independent Catholic day school for girls in Bryanston, invites applications for a Head of Department (HOD) – Life Sciences to commence January 2026 (or negotiable). The role involves leading the Life Sciences department, teaching Grades 7–12, and fostering a passion for Life Sciences among learners.


Selection Criteria / Required Qualifications

  • Relevant teaching qualification from a recognised institution

  • In-depth teaching experience, including enquiry-based learning

  • Strong understanding of the IEB syllabus and assessment frameworks up to matric level

  • Excellent all-round knowledge of Life Sciences

  • Proven record of innovation, commitment, and professionalism in teaching

  • Willingness to embrace rapid changes in education

  • Interest in integrating ITC into teaching and learning (Brescia House is a Microsoft Showcase School)

  • SACE registration

  • Commitment to uphold the Ursuline ethos of the school


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Life Sciences to Grades 7–12

  • Actively contribute to the High School teaching body

  • Lead, manage, and motivate the Life Sciences department

  • Administer departmental responsibilities and support professional development of team members

  • Participate in co-curricular activities, events, workshops, and conferences

  • Organise field trips and tours, and accompany groups

  • Stay updated on curriculum developments and subject knowledge

  • Promote a passion for Life Sciences among learners at every opportunity
