About the Role
Brescia House School, an independent Catholic day school for girls in Bryanston, invites applications for a Head of Department (HOD) – Life Sciences to commence January 2026 (or negotiable). The role involves leading the Life Sciences department, teaching Grades 7–12, and fostering a passion for Life Sciences among learners.
Selection Criteria / Required Qualifications

Relevant teaching qualification from a recognised institution

In-depth teaching experience, including enquiry-based learning

Strong understanding of the IEB syllabus and assessment frameworks up to matric level

Excellent all-round knowledge of Life Sciences

Proven record of innovation, commitment, and professionalism in teaching

Willingness to embrace rapid changes in education

Interest in integrating ITC into teaching and learning (Brescia House is a Microsoft Showcase School)

Key Responsibilities

Teach Life Sciences to Grades 7–12

Actively contribute to the High School teaching body

Lead, manage, and motivate the Life Sciences department

Administer departmental responsibilities and support professional development of team members

Participate in co-curricular activities, events, workshops, and conferences

Organise field trips and tours, and accompany groups

Stay updated on curriculum developments and subject knowledge

Promote a passion for Life Sciences among learners at every opportunity
