Job Description

The American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) seeks a passionate and experienced High School IBDP Economics & HS Social Studies Teacher to join its Johannesburg Campus. This full-time position includes teaching IBDP Economics and Grade 9 or 10 Integrated Social Studies within an 8-period rotating block schedule (teachers teach 6 of 8 blocks). The teacher will also serve as a homeroom advisor, contributing to the school’s Well-Being Program.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Secondary teaching certification in Social Studies (Master’s preferred)

  • Degree in Economics

  • Successful experience teaching IBDP Economics

  • Recent training and/or experience in IBDP Economics

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Commitment to differentiated instruction and inclusive education

  • Ability to use data to inform and improve teaching practice

  • Experience in advisory (homeroom/Well-Being) programs

  • Proven success in innovative teaching and curriculum design


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons

  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and assessment

  • Communicate regularly with parents and students

  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings

  • Maintain accurate records of assessments and attendance

Work Details

  • Work Days: Monday–Friday (188 days per year)

  • Work Hours:

    • Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri: 7:10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

    • Wed: 7:10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • Teaching Load: 6 of 8 blocks in the HS schedule
