Position Overview
Drum has an exciting opportunity for a Journalist at their Johannesburg office. Reporting to the digital editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating high-quality content for Drum’s digital platforms, as well as contributing to brand extensions. The role offers an opportunity to work on multimedia projects and be involved in various engaging content creation efforts.
Key Responsibilities

Content Creation: Identify and create original, unique content daily for Drum’s digital platforms.

Event Coverage: Attend events on behalf of the brand, capturing relevant content.

News Production: Manage and compile news and production lists as needed.

Multimedia Involvement: Contribute content to newsletters, podcasts, and other digital channels.

CMS: Work with the Content Management System (CMS) to publish and manage content.

Editorial Standards: Adhere to Drum’s quality, style, and content standards.

Press Code Compliance: Ensure content complies with the South African Press Code.

Interviews: Secure and conduct in-depth interviews with relevant newsmakers on topical issues.

Multimedia Content Creation: Shoot videos and take photographs for the website and its social media accounts.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: A diploma or degree in journalism, languages, or media studies.

Experience: At least three years of experience in a related professional environment.

Network: A demonstrable network of contacts in the industry.

CMS Knowledge: Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) is advantageous.

Skills:

Strong general knowledge and excellent writing skills in English.

Understanding of how to use social media across different platforms.

Knowledge of Drum’s target market and readership.

Strong news sense and current event awareness.

Proficiency in relevant computer software.
