Job Overview

Drive the development of new and innovative products for Pick n Pay’s end-to-end offering. Focus on improving product innovation in the category, increasing sales, and market share while collaborating with Commercial and vendor partners. Specialization in the protein category is essential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Innovation Agenda for assigned products

  • Identify suitable products for new and improved offers

  • Troubleshoot formulation challenges and optimize recipes for cost efficiency and scalability

  • Document development processes and prepare reports for stakeholders

  • Follow defined product development processes, including product sign-offs and commercial alignment

  • Ensure successful launch of new products regionally and nationally within stipulated timelines

  • Oversee packaging processes and sustainability awareness

  • Monitor sales and profitability of products

  • Collaborate with other Product Developers according to company values

  • Develop and implement contingency plans to close development gaps


Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma in Consumer Science, Food Science, or Product Development

  • 1–2 years product development experience

  • Specialization in the protein category

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Computer literacy – Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret sensory and nutritional data

  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines for food products and labeling

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in creating and adapting recipes based on dietary needs and trends

  • Experience in training staff on new recipes and costing strategies

  • Knowledge of food costing, pricing strategies, and maintaining food margins

  • Ability to calculate and adjust recipe costs for profitability without compromising quality

  • Passion for staying updated with the latest culinary trends and techniques

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
