About the Maize Trust
The Maize Trust, established in August 1998 after the closure of the Maize Board, promotes the South African maize industry. Its mission is to ensure the industry remains regionally dominant and globally competitive.
The Trust provides funding for:

Market and production-related research
-
Dissemination of market information
-
Transformation initiatives (including bursaries & farmer development projects)
Bursary Scope & Value

🎓 Masters by Dissertation: R99,750 per year (up to 2 years)
-
🎓 Doctoral Research: R131,250 per year (up to 3 years)
Funding is renewed annually, subject to progress reports by both the student and supervisor.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

Be a South African citizen
-
Be admitted for full-time Masters (dissertation only) or Doctoral studies at a recognised university
-
Be pursuing studies relevant to the maize industry
-
Have their proposal approved by the Maize Trust
-
Not receive other bursary funding without Trust approval
-
Commit to working in the maize industry in South Africa for the same duration as the bursary period
