Job Overview

Manage deli resources to maximize turnover, minimize shortages, and ensure all standards, processes, and policies are adhered to. Lead the department to achieve operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and staff development.


Key Responsibilities

Merchandising Management:

  • Conduct regular quality checks on merchandise

  • Execute plano guide 100% and handle products as per SOP

  • Ensure department readiness at store opening

  • Identify fast-selling lines and sales opportunities

  • Wrap, pack, and rotate produce according to standards

  • Ensure hygiene, housekeeping, and safety compliance

  • Monitor promotions and maintain clean back-up areas

Food Safety & Hygiene:

  • Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards

  • Ensure stock rotation and adherence to food safety policies

  • Implement cleaning schedules and monitor sanitation effectiveness

Customer Services Management:

  • Respond to customer requests and queries

  • Assist with stock replacements and provide information on deliveries

  • Ensure equipment is operational and department standards are maintained

Staff Management:

  • Communicate critical information and delegate tasks

  • Set targets, priorities, and monitor performance

  • Handle noncompliance and conduct staff coaching/training

  • Attend regional meetings and manage Kronos scheduling

Administration & Systems:

  • Maintain equipment and general maintenance standards

  • Monitor waste and implement corrective actions

  • Track turnover and identify sales improvement opportunities

  • Handle SAP processes including IDTs, out-of-stock tracking, and waste processing

  • Regularly check electronic communications for updates


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • Deli experience and knowledge OR 1–2 years running a department

  • Management experience in coaching, training, and performance management

  • Sound numeracy skills and retail industry knowledge
