Job Overview:

St Columba’s is seeking a FET Afrikaans and Cultural Teacher to join their academic team starting in January 2026. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching Afrikaans as a First Additional Language to Grades 10-12 and a keen interest in integrating cultural aspects into the curriculum. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator looking to shape young minds in a Catholic environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Afrikaans First Additional Language to FET Phase students (Grades 10-12).

  • Integrate cultural aspects of Afrikaans language and literature into lessons to enhance students’ learning.

  • Utilize Microsoft Office and Google Classroom for lesson planning, assignments, and assessments.

  • Design and deliver engaging lessons that encourage student participation and mastery of the Afrikaans language.

  • Support the academic and personal growth of students, providing mentorship and guidance.

  • Participate in the broader school community and extra-mural activities as part of the school’s holistic approach to education.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and ensure the success of students.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant Academic and Professional Teaching Qualification (Bachelor of Education or equivalent).

  • SACE Registered.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Classroom.

  • IEB experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • 3+ years’ teaching experience in Afrikaans, with a focus on the FET phase (Grade 10-12).

  • Experience in cultural teaching and incorporating cultural aspects into the curriculum is a plus.
