Position Overview:

St Alban’s College seeks an IsiZulu Teacher/HOD who is passionate, experienced, and creative. The role offers the opportunity to not only teach IsiZulu but also to potentially lead the IsiZulu Department. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the IEB curriculum and possess the drive to foster enthusiasm for the subject while maintaining high standards of achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach IsiZulu from Grade 8 to Grade 12: Lead engaging lessons that challenge students to excel in IsiZulu, promoting both fluency and cultural understanding.

  • Lead the IsiZulu Department: If applicable, manage and innovate within the department to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.

  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver high-quality instruction that adheres to the IEB curriculum, using innovative teaching methods.

  • Integration of Technology: Effectively use technology (Google and Microsoft platforms) in the classroom to enhance learning.

  • Inspire Higher-Order Thinking: Foster a love for IsiZulu and challenge students to think critically and creatively.

  • Extra-Curricular Involvement: Actively contribute to the broader school community through extra-curricular activities, particularly those related to IsiZulu or cultural promotion.


Criteria:

  • Academic Qualifications: An appropriate degree in IsiZulu or related field.

  • SACE Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).

  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience teaching IsiZulu in the IEB system from Grade 8 to Grade 12.

  • Innovative Teaching: Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching, enhancing students’ learning experiences.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, as well as classroom management skills.

  • Extra-Curricular Contribution: Willingness to participate in and contribute to the school’s extra-curricular program.

  • Leadership Potential: A vision to lead the IsiZulu Department effectively, with the potential for innovation and change.

  • Passion for Education: A deep passion for education and motivating students, with a boy-centric teaching approach.

  • Current Trends: Up-to-date with current educational trends and methodologies in IsiZulu teaching.
