Somerset College is an independent co-educational school offering education from Grade 000 to Matric (IEB and Cambridge AS and A levels). The Music Department spans from Pre-Prep to Grade 12, providing a wide range of musical activities and individual lessons across various instruments. Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Music Teacher to join our team in the Pre-Preparatory and Junior Preparatory School. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching music from Grades 000 to 3, directing choirs, and co-curricular activities, and contributing to various musical performances and events.
Key Responsibilities

Teach Pre-Preparatory and Junior Preparatory music: Implement an appropriate curriculum for music and movement for children in Grades 000-3.

Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Preparatory Arts and Drama Departments for events like Celebratory Assemblies, Founder’s Day, and similar occasions.

Co-curricular Activities: Direct the Grade R and Junior Preparatory choirs and manage their performances as afternoon activities.

Ensemble Development: Develop a Junior Primary Orff ensemble and facilitate musical engagement.

Piano Accompaniment: Play piano accompaniment during class music sessions, choir practices, and at school events.

School Participation: Participate in the life of the Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory Schools for special days, functions, and events.

General Contributions: Assist with operational requirements and responsibilities in both the Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory Schools as needed.

Uphold the Christian ethos and values of the School.
Qualifications & Experience

Academic & Professional Qualifications: Suitable academic qualifications in Music Education.

Teaching Experience: Previous experience in Pre-Preparatory and Junior Preparatory class music teaching, preferably with experience in directing choirs and ensemble groups.

SACE Registration: Proof of registration with SACE is required.

Warm, nurturing disposition with excellent interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Awareness of the latest trends in technology and ECD (Early Childhood Development) education.
