Security Officer – Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

Location: Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Western Cape
Annual Salary: R163,680 per annum + service benefits (13th cheque, employer’s pension contribution, housing and medical aid allowance)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Access/Egress Control: Prevent unlawful entry or removal of persons, vehicles, dangerous objects, and illegal substances.

  • Surveillance Monitoring: Control and monitor surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems to identify and prevent incidents like vehicle thefts or forcible entries.

  • Protection of People and Property: Guard buildings, key points, patients, visitors, and personnel.

  • Patrolling: Patrol fence-off areas, buildings, and hospital premises.

  • Handling Aggressive Patients: Assist personnel in managing violent or uncontrolled patients.

  • Incident Reporting: Record and report all incidents, patient movements, and activities.

  • Security Service Delivery: Ensure a supportive security service to allocated areas, preventing adverse incidents such as injuries, abscondments, and litigation.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Std 7)

  • Experience: Appropriate experience as a Security Officer in a hospital environment.

  • PSIRA Registration: Must be registered with the Security Board of South Africa under the Security Industry Regulations Act (Act 56 of 2001) at Grade C level.

  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.

  • Other Skills:

    • Strong sense of responsibility and ability to function independently.

    • Knowledge of aggression and violence management.

    • Ability to work under pressure and handle conflict.

    • Good report writing skills and listening ability.


Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work shifts (including public holidays and weekends).

  • Rotational duties in various units as required.
