Position Overview:
Nova Pioneer is looking for a passionate and dynamic Afrikaans teacher to join their team for the Senior Phase (Grade 8–9) starting in January 2026. The successful candidate will lead Afrikaans lessons for high school students, using Nova Pioneer’s unique, inquiry-based approach to learning. This role also involves mentoring apprentice teachers, providing student feedback, and contributing to the broader school community through co-curricular activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning & Delivery:
-
Work closely with learning designers to create engaging, impactful lessons that align with the curriculum.

Deliver engaging, enquiry-based lessons, using technology to enhance the learning experience.

Set and communicate rigorous academic goals, providing ongoing feedback to students to drive improvement.

Use assessment data to adjust teaching strategies and ensure all students progress.

Mentoring & Team Collaboration:

Observe and coach apprentice teachers, helping them develop their teaching skills.

Collaborate with Deans of Instruction and learning designers in weekly feedback sessions to refine teaching practices.

Co-Curricular Involvement:

Contribute to co-curricular programming by supporting at least one activity each term.

Engage in supervision duties for morning, evening, and weekend events as required.

Communication:

Maintain regular communication with parents through meetings, email, and telephone.

Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Skills & Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a Bachelor’s degree + PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).

SACE registration.
-
Proficiency in Afrikaans (speaking, reading, and writing).

Experience in teaching Afrikaans as either a first or second language is required.

Familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum would be an advantage.

Ability to lead a classroom independently and effectively.

Strong passion for enquiry-based, student-centered learning.

Adept at using technology in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning.
