🎯 Job Purpose
The Specialist – Employee Relations is responsible for supporting SAAT in implementing best practices in employee relations. This includes managing workplace investigations, grievance and disciplinary procedures, advising on labour legislation, and delivering training to improve supervisory competence and employee engagement. The role also ensures compliance with employment legislation and company policies, including collective agreements.
⚙️ Principal Accountabilities
Dispute Management & Advisory Services:

Manage disciplinary and grievance hearings, workplace investigations, and labour disputes

Represent the company at the CCMA and other relevant forums
-
Brief attorneys for labour-related cases as needed
-
Resolve disputes at the lowest possible level and provide guidance on interest disputes and strikes

Research and monitor labour legislation and case law
Managerial & HR Support:
-
Coach and guide managers on disciplinary and grievance processes

Compile charges and assist line managers during hearings
-
Provide training on labour law, company policies, and collective agreements
-
Consult with HR business partners on ER matters

Facilitate conflict resolution and educate stakeholders on policies and legislation
Administration & Reporting:
-
Maintain accurate ER records and reports in collaboration with ER administrators

Support collective bargaining and labour consultation processes
-
Monitor compliance with labour legislation, policies, and procedures
-
Draft collective agreements and advise on policy alignment
Risk Identification & Mitigation:

Analyze ER trends to predict and mitigate risk
-
Develop and implement solution-focused strategies
-
Guide team leaders and managers during industrial actions and union interactions
Training & Monitoring:

Identify ER training needs for management and staff
-
Develop and deliver training programs
-
Ensure adherence to Employment Equity Plans and compliance with labour laws

Provide professional guidance and advice across all levels of management and employees
🧠 Qualifications & Experience
-
Essential: Diploma or Degree in Labour Law, Industrial Relations, or Labour Relations
-
Advantageous: LLB or Labour Dispute Resolution Practice
-
Drivers Licence and own vehicle

Experience:
-
5+ years in Employee Relations
-
3+ years understanding of CCMA case management
-
3+ years HR experience
-
2+ years ER experience in aviation industry (advantageous)
