Job Overview:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an exciting opportunity for Trainee Managers for their Western Cape stores. This is a fantastic learning opportunity where you’ll gain hands-on experience in managing overall store operations under the supervision of an experienced store manager. The position involves performing a wide range of operational duties with guidance and support.


Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management:

  • Ensure proper processing of items, including goods in transit, stock takes, and addressing shrinkage.

  • Ensure smooth stock flow to the sales floor and assist in managing stock levels in FMCG, Health, and Beauty categories.

  • Participate in ordering stock and maintaining appropriate stock levels.

Sales Floor & Receiving:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of promotional stock displays.

  • Maintain adherence to labeling, pricing, and store layout standards.

  • Assist in receiving and verifying goods, ensuring transaction integrity and proper stock reconciliation.

  • Support store management in achieving sales targets.

Sales and Customer Service:

  • Assist with achieving set sales targets, including FMCG, Health, and Beauty.

  • Help ensure promotions are executed efficiently and that customer complaints are addressed promptly.

  • Encourage loyalty sign-ups and ensure accurate processing of points on customer accounts.

  • Support effective communication between management, suppliers, and staff to enhance service delivery.

Financial and Administrative Support:

  • Assist with cash-ups and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.

  • Support the monitoring of store expenses, including stock adjustments and controlling costs.

  • Assist in analyzing and interpreting financial statements and ensuring all transactions comply with company policies.

  • Help improve cashier service levels, productivity, and manage overtime and casual staff spend.

HR Process and Training:

  • Assist with people administration tasks, including leave management and staff file management.

  • Support HR processes and ensure compliance with internal policies.

  • Help facilitate training and development for staff as required.

  • Participate in the Trainee Manager Programme, completing assessments and on-the-job learning tasks.

Housekeeping and Store Standards:

  • Ensure that the store is kept clean and well-maintained according to Dis-Chem standards.

  • Adhere to all company policies, health and safety regulations, and uniform requirements.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.

  • 1-2 years’ experience in retail management, including stock management, cash handling, reporting, and customer service.

  • Diploma in Financial/Admin or a relevant 3-year diploma.

  • Computer literate (MS Office).

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.

  • Willing and able to work retail hours.


Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills and business acumen.

  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff, suppliers, and customers.

  • Analytical and time management skills.

  • Basic understanding of financial concepts such as GP, markup, VAT, etc.

  • Strong command of the English language.

  • Ability to adapt to the retail environment and work under pressure.
